Injury due to sport can be very frustrating. Often sport is our way to wind down and release our tensions of life. We become committed to our sport and enjoy the challenge. Sporting injuries can be acute or sudden (e.g. hamstring strain, calf tear, rolling your ankle) or they can be slowing grumbling away until the pain finally stops you from playing (Achilles tendinopathy, low back pain, tennis elbow).
People seek help often when they have tried to manage it themselves and things haven't improved. The success of a sports injury is to firstly diagnose the correct issue, this can be straight forward or more complicated depending on the injury. Secondly by having the right diagnosis the clinician can explain to you the expected outcome and time frames for recovery. Then they can discuss with you the optimum treatment plan based on current evidence based literature.
As a patient you can then be able to know what you need to do for the injury to recover and have an idea of how long you maybe away from your sport.
What we excel at at JYphysiotherapy is getting the right diagnosis and treatment plan but also making sure that your time off sport does not necessarily mean time out of exercise. We will make sure that you are strengthening, mobilising areas you can and try and keep up with your CV. The goal is to use the recovery period to build on those areas that may be your weak spot.
Having worked within Sports Medicine for 6 years and spent 3 years with the GB KAYAK SQUAD our clinical director Jehan, knows how to manage a sports injury. She has an MSc in Sports Medicine so is skilled at diagnosis and offering a treatment plan with appropriate time frames to return to sport.
We are also aware that there are often many reasons for an injury to occur and we look at treating these factors during the rehabilitation phase. These reasons could be over training, poor technique, weakness in the core region. Identifying these weak links is our specialty and by the time you return to training you should be stronger than pre-injury. We also specialise in performance enhancement and often work with coaches and trainers to get the best results.
Over the last 2 years we have worked with Surbiton Hockey Club, working with coaches and the colts programme. We have started to implement injury prevention programmes and hope to see good success with them.

Testimonial"I have had many issues with my back over the years and Jehan has been the only physio to not only correctly diagnose and treat successfully, but also to devise an effective plan to deliver long standing results.
Her knowledge of the complexities of vertebrae are second to none! I would highly recommend her."
