What is physiotherapy?

Physiotherapy is a physical medicine and rehabilitation that uses the anatomy of the body to help restore normal movement in an effective and pain-free manner. Physiotherapy can be beneficial for people of all ages suffering from illness, disability and/or injury. Through function, physiotherapy helps one return back to work, sport and/or normal day to day activities, while limiting disability and pain. Physiotherapy takes a holistic approach in treatment and uses modalities, manual therapy as well as patient education to help treat a variety of injuries and disabilities. Physiotherapy also helps maintain heath of all ages, allowing people to be more active for longer, manage pain more effectively and take control of their overall wellbeing. With exercise and movement at its forefront, physiotherapy allows you to achieve the best quality of life.

What do we treat?

Physiotherapists treat a variety of injuries and disabilities, but are specialists in dysfunction relating to muscles, tendons, ligaments, joints and nerves. Through a thorough assessment, physiotherapists are able to make a diagnosis and then generate an appropriate treatment plan. From sports injuries to pre/post-natal pain, physiotherapists can help restore and return you back to sport and/or normal function. As physiotherapists specialise in movement as a mode of restoration to normal function- exercise is often at the forefront of their treatment. From specific exercise prescription for a certain injury, to getting one back to general exercise; a physiotherapist is the best one to determine and prescribe.

If pain is not sports or gym related but there is generalised musculoskeletal pain, a physiotherapist can aid with this as well. From arthritic hips to a clicking painful jaw, physiotherapists are qualified to assess and treat dysfunctions such as temporomandibular dysfunction and arthritis; getting you back to daily activities as pain free as possible.

What services do our physios in Kingston provide?

With physiotherapists treating a multitude of conditions, their repertoire of services and modalities used is also vast. Physiotherapy services can include sports rehabilitation following a sports injury where exercise and exercise progression is at the forefront of treatment. It can also entail manual therapy, where hands on joint mobilisation/ manipulation, massage, taping, passive physiological movement, etc. is utilised to restore movement and decreased pain. Modalities such as ultrasound, electrical stimulation and acupuncture are also frequently used in conjunction with the above to treat pain and dysfunction. Finally, at the base of everything physiotherapists provide, is education and patient accountability so that once the problem has been identified and treatment plan put into place, the patient can be accountable to maintain their health and wellbeing. Physiotherapists often provide patients with long term management plans to help with the maintenance and the longevity of their wellbeing and in turn, happiness.

*All our physiotherapists in Kingston are HPC registered and members of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy.*

"I have had many issues with my back over the years and Jehan has been the only physio to not only correctly diagnose and treat successfully, but also to devise an effective plan to deliver long standing results.

Her knowledge of the complexities of vertebrae are second to none! I would highly recommend her."
